Sleepy Head: Most of us that work, or have an active lifestyle wake up early in the morning. If you wonder why you might still feel sleepy, it’s because your body is still secreting the sleep hormones, including melatonin. Having a Morning Habit can help to get your body going! Here’s some suggestions…
Awake v. Alert: Have you participated in early morning meetings and wondered why you and your coworkers aren’t quite at your peak? It could be because your mind hasn’t fully become awake. It might be because your peak alertness isn’t until you’ve had a few hours of sun.
Body Power: An afternoon soccer practice for the kids, or exercise class for you might be more productive because you have the best bodily response in the mid afternoon. Those of us at a desk might disagree and run for another cup of coffee or some chocolate for a caffeine boost. Perhaps a walk up the stairs or around the block would be a better habit?
Calm Commuting: Watching your stress during your commute home, or while you’re getting the kids or husband dinner is important. Our blood pressure is highest right around that time. Being aware of this phenomenon can help you to control that nasty cortisol which leads to more stress and even tummy fat!
Early to Bed: Even though your bedtime might be dictated by chores, kids or work you can see that your melatonin is already kicking in after the sun goes down. Putting what you can off until tomorrow and getting to bed will help you get better quality sleep using your body’s natural sleep aid.
Early to Rise: Take advantage of the rise in blood pressure and get up early. Take advantage of the time before the rest of the house, or office for the me time you deserve and need.
Being mindful of your body’s natural clock is the first step in creating healthy habits. Spend a little time thinking about how you can adjust your daily routines to coordinate with your circadian rhythm. Thoughts become actions. Actions become habits. Habits become your character and your character becomes your destiny
