Oh the things that I have seen in my career! If I could write a book, I would. As a matter of fact I used to think that I was a pretty good writer until one of my corporate managers told me I wasn’t. And for some reason, I believed her and that squashed my creativity for years. That’s the point of this section; to provide reflections of my decades of working in corporate America and how I almost allowed it to change who I am. Also to provide observations about life in general. One of the lessons that I’ve learned is that allowing what others say to you and/or about you can affect your thoughts and actions. Practicing affirmations and learning to control your self-talk can be your shield against the negativity you may encounter and other challenges of this world. It is my hope that those who read and share this will learn from some of these reflections and re-affirm who they are and want to be.
I’ll warn you now, some of the language I use and the observations I present are going to be disturbing. Some of you may not agree with my assessments of the behaviors I have witnessed and some of you will see yourselves, or others and agree. You know what? That’s is totally O.K. I’m not creating this space to make people like me. I spent way too much of my career trying to make people like me and it never did work. I’m doing this because of lot of what I have experienced under the guise of corporate politics, or political correctness, or business hierarchy needs to be exposed and I don’t need their approval anymore. Sorry, not sorry!
Another part of this section will be to share affirmations about life, work, health and spirituality that have helped me get through my American journey. Some of you know I am not an American, I am a very proud Ukrainian, German (and other things I’m sure) Canadian. The fact that I am from another country and grew up with a very different set of values is one of the reasons why my observations of life here have been so stark. Many of the acceptable behavior in corporate America would not be acceptable in my country or others and vice versa. Doing regular affirmations is one of the ways that I was able to cope and in some cases “thrive” in this environment. I hope that by sharing the resources that helped me they might help someone else in their journey.
Finally, I will be opening up many of the reflections and affirmations for your comments. Since it is my website I reserve the right and, of course, have the ability to remove them or post them. And while some of the comments you leave may disagree with my premises I’ll leave them if I think someone else may benefit or if they tamper some of the more painful or disturbing reflections I share.
So I hope you will join me on this new adventure of reflection and affirmation by reading, sharing and adding your own so that other people, and especially women, might find their path a little easier to trod.
