Finding Direction in Life: Tips to Get Started
Trying to figure out a new direction in life isn’t easy. Whether you are newly retired, looking for a new career either by choice or necessity or are just not satisfied with how life is going there are ways to find a new direction. Here are a few tips:
Assess but don’t overthink:
Take some time to think about a big life decision. If you come up with obstacles to your goals, don’t overthink. Ask yourself; Is this a real concern or just an excuse to not follow my dreams?
Notice What Makes You Happy
As you experience your day take an assessment of what makes you happy. Make a note of it in a journal. You can use this list to find your new direction.
Take Action/Just Do it!
If it’s a new job you want, start looking now. If it’s a new hobby, do the same. If it’s not the right direction you can go back and try something else. Taking those first steps will motivate you further.
Focus on Values
What are your core values? What is important to you about how you live your life? This will help you make the right decision.
Trust Yourself
Change is always a little scary, if it’s not it’s probably not worth it. Trust your gut feelings about your decisions to move forward.
Find Supporters
Find like-minded people who respect your opinions and don’t try to force theirs upon you. Surround yourself with supportive people with your interests in mind.
Finding your direction will take some time. You will know it when you find it.
