Starting a Gratitude Journal
Journaling is one of the easiest things you can do to start thinking positively. All you need is a notepad and a pen. You can pick up your journal and just write what you are thinking any time of day – especially if you find yourself starting to think negatively. I recommend writing in your journal as part of your bedtime routine. Ultimately it’s up to you, but here’s some ways to get started:
Get lined notebooks
Buy yourself some nice lined memo books with pictures, or artwork that you like. There easy to find in office supplies or online.
Start Simply
If you don’t know what to say just start with what happened during your day and what you are going to do to move forward in the future.
Add a Mission Statement
On the inside cover write a simple statement of what you hope to accomplish by the time you use up the entire notebook.
Focus on Gratitude
Write down at least 7 things you are grateful for. These can be as simple as the clothes you have, the food you ate, the bird you heard. Gratitude creates positivity.
Date each entry
This allows for future reflection on your progress. Be sure to include what prompted you to write if it’s outside of your usual time.
End with a “Thank You”
Be sure at the end of every list of things you are grateful for you say “Thank you” at least 3 times. Whether you are thanking God or the universe this simple thank you will set you in the right direction for a restful sleep.
